Starting a new career at 35

Hello all, this has been a topic i have wanted to talk about for a while. First off lets talk about where i started. I graduated with a bachelors degree in criminal justice, with the idea of serving the public as a police officer. The closer i got to graduation, the more i wanted to take my career in a different direction. I felt however that i should pursue a career in law enforcement since i had spent 4 years of college and lots of money pursuing this specific degree. After college i got a job as a manager of an armored car company, which i stayed at for seven years. During those seven years i began to realize where my true passions in life were. At the end of those seven years i met my soon to be wife and as we began our relationship. She a die hard Chicago Cubs fan and me a die hard Milwaukee Brewers fan, my passion for wanting to something in sports began to come to the surface. I have always been a passionate and knowelegable sports fan, i just had no idea how to go about getting a job in the sports field. After spending a ton of time researching how to go about reaching my dream job, i came to the realization that i needed some experience. Just on chance I came across an internship opportunity with ESPN Milwaukee. While i really wanted to pursue this, i didn't think I could afford to take an unpaid internship. It was my beautiful wife who convinced me to go for it, even though it would mean moving to Milwaukee 4 hours away . While i was worrying about finances my wife was thinking of my overall happiness. She made me see that for us to be truly happy in life i needed to take this chance or i would regret it for the rest of my life. So with my wife's blessing i set out to pursue my dream. I applied for the ESPN internship and after the sending my resume and interviewing for the position, i was offered it. Two months after getting the position, my wife and i up and moved to milwaukee. While this was easy for me to do as the majority of my family is from the Milwaukee area, I give my amazing wife all the credit in the world for following me to Brew City. Just a little insight into her, She is from Eau Claire Wisconsin where we moved from. Her whole family is from that area and her mother was recovering from breast cancer, so it took a ton of courage for her to make this move. That in a nutshell was the process by which i came to ESPN Milwaukee. In my future blogs i will talk about my amazing experiences at ESPN and some of the hardships that come with not getting paid, while getting the needed experience. Peace out, Drew
